Whilst working in southern Africa, Aaron visited national parks, carrying his sketchbook and pen along with a camera.

“The experience felt somewhat akin to life drawing with 5 or 10 second poses. The continual movement of the animals means you have to work fast. It forces you to work loosely and freely”, he says.

After returning to Australia, Aaron worked from the sketches and photos he’d taken to create much larger works that attempted to capture something of each animal’s uniqueness as experienced in the wild.
